A report by the UK Green Building Council has called for incentives including reduced council tax bills or stamp duty to encourage up to 1.5 million home energy retrofits each year and boost the government’s Green Deal programme.
The Green Deal is facing renewed criticism after the government confirmed that just four households had signed a Green Deal plan since its launch in January.
The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has responded to widespread reports that the Green Deal is failing by publishing new data which shows the scheme is “inspiring people” to install energy saving measures.

Over 9,500 Green Deal assessments were lodged in April according to the latest statistics released by the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC).
