Nominations for 2015’s Solar Power Portal Awards are currently open. Returning for its third year, the Solar Power Portal Awards will take place on 13 October, the first evening of the sixth Solar Energy UK exhibition in Birmingham.

In the run up to the 29 June nominations deadline, Solar Power Portal is taking a closer look at each of this year’s categories.

Best use of solar in a CSR project

The second of this year’s categories is a new addition to the Solar Power Portal Awards lineup. The award will recognise one company’s commitment to the climate and the environment and is open to all businesses who have installed solar as part of a CSR project. Judges will be looking for a holistic approach to solar generation.

This year has seen a number of incredibly influential businesses turn to solar to help them achieve their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) objectives. Solar PV technology lends itself perfectly to approaching energy reduction and carbon negation by providing decentralised energy at the point of consumption. But solar is just one colour in the green palette, this award will be looking at the company’s wider approach to environmental issues and how its solar array is providing a joined-up benefit for a company – think LED makeovers, energy efficiency measures, complementary microgeneration.
